Finally, here they all are together! I’ve been working on these Wildcat text portraits since the announcement of an HSM Reunion. I can’t believe it’s been almost 4 months since then! I’ve been wanting to make pictures of the Wildcats for a while now and i didn’t think it was gonna happen till 2016 when it’d be the 10 year anniversary of High School Musical. (For the record, i do plan on doing something for then as well!)
High School Musical to me is basically my obsession. I’ve been addicted to the movie from the first time i saw it. I will watch it almost every time it’s on, i’d wanna buy almost anything with an HSM label on it, i’ll write fan fictions about it or role-play one of the characters…i’ll be one of the crazy fans who yells ‘Summertime!’ when someone asks ‘What Time Is It?’. High School Musical has been part of my life for 8 years now and i don’t care what anyone else thinks of it or if they think of me differently because i love it so much; i wouldn’t change it for anything. I made these collages as a way to celebrate how amazing High School Musical is and what it means to me. And it’s not just the characters that are so lovable, it’s the cast. These are the people who brought the characters to life and say or do all these nice things. These are people to really look up to and are thankful for not just being part of something so amazing, but also for becoming life-long friends.
When the announcement had been made about the Reunion, the point of it was for the cast to see each other after Senior Year ending 5 years earlier. That’s why i chose to recreate the closeups at the end of Senior Year. I would have loved to also do pictures of Olesya Rulin, Kaycee Stroh and director Kenny Ortega, who were going to be part of the reunion; unfortunately time didn’t allow it for me. I didn’t even think i would get the main six done in time for the Reunion. But if i can make pictures like these again in 2 years and be able to do the entire cast, i would love to.
I’ve said from the beginning that i want to sell these pictures and give the money to charity. I didn’t know when these would be done or hat charity i would give the money to, but i’ve decided. I don’t want to donate to just one charity; so the money from these pictures, half will go to Gimme Mo and the other half will go to Make a Wish. The HSM Reunion is being sponsored by Gimme Mo and people have been donating there for the reunion. At the time i was only able to contribute a small amount, so this will be my way of wanting to give more. And with the foundation run by someone as awesome as Monique Coleman, i couldn’t think of a better place for the money to go to. I also want to donate to the Make a Wish Foundation because it also connects to High School Musical. I still remember when they were featured on The Road to High School Musical 2. I remember seeing it on TV and listening to the kids talk about being on the set and meeting the cast, and the Wildcats were so humble about the experience and just loved spending time with these kids. Make a Wish has done so many amazing things and this money can go to one more amazing thing for them to put smiles on kids’ faces.
I’ve been updating this Tumblr and my Facebook page with updates on how these pictures were coming along and how much time i’ve spent on all of them. One person can purchase one picture or two or all of them; either way, 100% of the profits go to Gimme Mo and Make a Wish. The charge for the pictures is $5/hour. If anyone wants a picture mounted on museum board or framed in anyway, it will cost extra. All i would ask is if the pictures cost any money to mail out for whatever reason, that i be paid back for that. All pictures will be mailed out protected under a sheet of layout bond or tracing paper and images will be checked to make sure everything is glued down securely prior to mailing. Any questions can be asked through messaging me on here, through my Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/lori.young.7564 or via email at Ldydesigned@gmail.com. Thank you to everyone following me through this and liking the pictures and especially thank you to the Wildcats for bringing High School Musical to us.
